Elana Renee Brophy – March 1, 1993 – August 26, 2002
On August 26th 2002, at the age of 9 and just days away from starting 4th grade at St.Pius X, Elana Renee Brophy lost her battle with pediatric cancer – Rhabomyosarcoma.
Elana touched so many lives during her short years on earth and now in honor of her zest for life and competitive spirit, the Brophy Family started the Elana Brophy Memorial Foundation, benefiting Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center in particular the Cancer and Blood Disease Institute (CBDI). The CBDI at Cincinnati’s Childrens closely integrates patient care and research in order to advance knowledge and achieve better outcomes for the patients and their families. The many programs under the CBDI include drug discovery programs to family support networks. Many of these programs helped Elana so very much while she was fighting and “living with” cancer. We are proud to support CCHMC and the important research they do on a daily basis to reach the day where every child diagnosed will be cured.
The Elana Brophy Memorial Foundation (formerly the Elana Brophy Memorial Scholarship Fund) was originally formed to award a scholarship each year to a graduating student from St. Pius X School, where Elana attended, moving on to catholic high school. All funds raised increase our hope to not only continue the scholarship in Elana’s name, but also reach out to other organizations with donations to help with their mission to help others, in a variety of different ways. We feel confident that the help we can give through the foundation will represent the spirit of courage that Elana possessed during her battle with cancer.
Thank you,
The Brophy Family
